FAQ

What is Counselling & Pscyhotherapy?

Counselling and psychotherapy provide a safe, therapeutic space to explore thoughts, beliefs, feelings or behaviours that affect your life negatively.  Through sessions, you gain greater awareness and work towards healthy changes.

Psychotherapy focuses more on long-term issues and it aims to move towards developmental change through identifying where a presenting issue comes from, how it arises in everyday life and why it consistently plays out. Counselling aims to help people resolve current issues and is more goal-focused.

How many sessions will I need?

This very much depends on what you would like to achieve from therapy and the support you have outside of the therapy space.  We can discuss a plan that works best for you.

Regular appointments, especially upon starting therapy, help build your capacity to work through issues and to make and embed the changes needed to live life to your best ability.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes, counselling psychotherapy sessions are confidential.

However, there are certain circumstances where I reserve the right to consult with your next of kin, GP or other professionals or emergency services. This is when, in my professional opinion, there is a serious risk to yourself, a risk to others, you are at risk from someone else or there are vulnerable people or children at risk.  I will  explore all options with you before consulting with others unless doing so would increase the risk of harm.

What do I need to access the sessions online?

You will need access to the internet for our online appointment.  We will connect via Zoom or WhatsApp, both services are free and have apps available should you wish to use a mobile device. All appointments are booked in advance. Please refer to the terms and conditions tab for further information about confidentiality, cancellation fees and appointment termination.

What happens in my first session?

In your first counselling session, we get a sense of each other by asking questions, talking and listening.  I gather an understanding of your current and past experiences as well as identifying the areas that are affecting you.  During this initial time together, we may set goals for your future appointments and discuss what you wish to gain from attending therapy.

What happens if I need to cancel an appointment?

Please contact me as soon as you know you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment.

Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours ahead of the scheduled appointment, otherwise the full fee for the appointment will be payable.

What are your fees?

My fees are €60 per session.
